Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan grew by 85.4% in the first seven months of 2025. This was reported by the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan, Vafo Alibek Niyatbekzoda, in an article published in the newspaper ‘Neutral Turkmenistan’ on the 34th anniversary of Tajikistan's independence, according to the news website Turkmenportal.

According to the diplomat, the growth in mutual trade and the expansion of the range of products supplied testify to the strengthening of economic ties. Today, bilateral relations are based on about 138 agreements covering various areas of cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between the countries were established in 1993. The diplomat emphasised that Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon and Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, play a special role in the development of the partnership.

In August, Emomali Rahmon visited Turkmenistan to participate in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in the ‘Avaza’ National Tourist Zone.

The Ambassador noted the high level of trust, friendship and good neighbourliness that characterises Tajik-Turkmen relations.
