The Central Asia Climate Change Conference kicked off in the capital's Yyldyz Hotel on 13 May. The event was organised by the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Programme (CAREC) jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan with the support of the World Bank and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). This is reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden age".

The forum brought together scientists, experts and representatives of international organisations, including UN bodies, to discuss climate threats relevant to the region. In a hybrid format, the participants emphasised the need for urgent measures to adapt to climate change, especially in the areas of water use, agriculture and energy.

Prior to the conference, an exhibition on the unique nature of Turkmenistan was held as a reminder of the importance of biodiversity conservation. Speakers noted that combating climate change requires a comprehensive approach and integration of environmental strategies into national development programmes.
