On July 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Minister of Budget and Economic Planning of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the talks, the sides discussed various aspects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Nigeria.

As part of the discussion on prospects for strengthening bilateral ties, the Head of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan handed over to the Nigerian side a diplomatic note with a proposal to establish diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a draft of this document.
