On 23 October 2026, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Georgia and the five Central Asian countries — Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan — was held in Batumi. The participants discussed prospects for political, trade and economic, transport, and energy cooperation, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

Particular attention was paid to the development of transport and transit corridors linking Central Asia with the Black Sea region. The ministers highlighted the importance of making effective use of logistics infrastructure, including seaports and railway networks.

The Turkmen side presented proposals to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Georgia. Discussions included strengthening engagement with the International Road Transport Union, the Organization for Cooperation between Railways, and the International Maritime Organization.

The development of telecommunications infrastructure was another key area. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan highlighted the prospects for building telecommunications networks, including laying a fibre-optic cable along the Caspian–Black Sea corridor. A comprehensive set of measures is planned to implement the proposals.

The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination among the countries, improve the efficiency of transport routes, and expand interregional ties.

As part of the event, the participants also visited the Batumi Sea Port, where they learned about Georgia’s capabilities in maritime transport, transport infrastructure, and regional logistics.
