Turkmenistan and UNODC discussed expanding cooperation

On 10 September, negotiations was held in Ashgabat between Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkmenistan M. Byashimova and UNODC Regional Representative Oliver Stolpe. The discussions focused on strengthening partnerships in countering modern security threats. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The participants paid special attention to the UNODC Programme for Central Asia, which has been extended until 2027. A key aspect of the negotiation was the upcoming signing of the UN Convention on Cybercrime, which will be held in Vietnam in October 2025.

The Turkmen side confirmed its readiness to develop cooperation in the field of cybersecurity and combating synthetic drugs. The importance of the adopted National Action Plan for 2025-2029 to combat human trafficking was noted.

The parties agreed on organisational issues for upcoming joint events and emphasised the importance of coordinating efforts to effectively counter transnational threats. At the end of the meeting, mutual interest was expressed in deepening the multilateral partnership.
