During his visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Portuguese Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.

The parties emphasised the friendly nature of their relations, based on equality and mutual respect, and expressed their readiness to develop cooperation and utilise existing potential.

It was noted that Turkmenistan and Portugal regularly support each other's initiatives in the international arena, including work within the UN. In this context, Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled the decision of the UN General Assembly to declare 2025 the ‘International Year of Peace and Trust’ and invited the President of Portugal to an international forum in Ashgabat on 12 December.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa thanked him for the invitation and noted that Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality strengthens its international authority.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in the further development of bilateral relations and wished each other success.
