The flag of Turkmenistan was raised on the Golubin Glacier in the Ala-Archa Gorge at an altitude of 3,300 metres above sea level. The ascent was timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, according to the IIC of Turkmenistan.

The event was organised by Dinara Begliyeva, a postgraduate student at the Kazakh-German University, as part of an international research programme on climate change and water resource conservation in Central Asia.
