Turkmenistan and the UN discussed cooperation in maintaining peace and security

On 22 September, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The parties discussed cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN in the field of maintaining peace and security, paying particular attention to the development of preventive diplomacy and the work of the UN Regional Centre for Central Asia.

R. Meredov noted Ashgabat's initiatives to strengthen trust between states and promote dialogue, including the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust. In this regard, the agenda of the session included the item ‘Neutrality for peace and security’ with draft resolutions on the role of neutrality and the establishment of an ‘International Day of Mediation’.

Current regional and global issues were also discussed.
