On 11 September 2025, negotiations took place in Tbilisi between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, D. Seyitmammedov, and the newly appointed Rector of Sokhumi State University T. Jugheli. On behalf of his country's leadership, the diplomat congratulated Ms. Jugheli, expressing confidence that her work as Rector would open a new fruitful stage for the university. This was reported by IIC.

The focus of the conversation was on the further development of a long-standing partnership, which has already proven its effectiveness in the implementation of joint projects in the fields of science, culture and education. To give it new impetus, the parties discussed in detail two key areas: the early conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Oil and Gas University of Turkmenistan and the organisation of exchange visits between the rectorates. These steps, according to the parties, will significantly strengthen inter-university and academic ties.

Rector T. Jugheli confirmed the university's full readiness to actively work on all the initiatives announced and to develop bilateral humanitarian dialogue.
