On 15 August, Turkmenistan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Korea, Begench Durdyev, took part in celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. The event was attended by President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung and members of the government, according to the press service of the Turkmen diplomatic mission.

In his speech, the President of the Republic of Korea noted the feat of the Korean people in the struggle for independence, emphasised the desire for reunification, the need for a nuclear-free status of the peninsula, the development of cooperation with Japan and preparations for the APEC summit, which will be held in the country in the third quarter.

During a brief conversation with Lee Jae-myung, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan conveyed congratulations and warm wishes on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The Korean side expressed gratitude and sent greetings and best wishes in return.
