An expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan was held in Turkmenistan

On 11 July, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held an extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, which summarised the results of the first half of 2025, discussed socio-economic programmes and personnel issues, and heard reports. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Mejlis, the State Security Council, regional governors, university rectors, media editors and others. Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimyradov reported GDP growth of 6.3%, industry growth of 1%, construction growth of 5.1%, transport growth of 10.8%, trade by 9.9%, agriculture by 4.5% and services by 8.6%. A draft updated ‘National Programme for Improving Living Conditions until 2028’ was presented. Turkmenistan's Minister of Economy and Finance Mammetguly Astanagulov reported on the over-fulfilment of budget revenues (101.5%) and growth in investment (17.7% of GDP), and also reported on the implementation of the ‘National Rural Programme’. The Chairman of the State Statistics Committee, Dovletgeldi Amanmuhammedov, reported on growth in gas and oil production, fuel, cement, textiles and agricultural products. Growth in the transport sector and communications services was also noted. Central Bank Chairman Toyly Malikov reported significant growth in lending to the private sector and agricultural producers. Deputy Prime Ministers reported on the implementation of production and construction plans, growth in trade turnover and the successful activities of industrial and commercial organisations. Festivals, competitions, international trips and the work of the media and cultural institutions were also reported. Achievements were noted in the fields of education, science, healthcare and sport: high results in academic competitions, scientific conferences, medical forums and sporting victories. The Transport and Communications Agency reported growth in services and the introduction of 4G+ and 5G in key areas. The agency's Director General, Mammethan Chakyev, was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for Transport and Communications on a trial basis. Regional governors reported on the progress of agricultural work and the implementation of national programmes. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the international visits of the President and the country's leadership, signed agreements and diplomatic activity. Chairwoman of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova reported on the adoption of laws, international parliamentary cooperation and preparations for the 30th anniversary of Neutrality. At the end of the meeting, Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the positive dynamics of the economy, the development of investments and the commissioning of housing. The Head of State signed Decrees on the National Programme, personnel appointments and the law on the jubilee medal, instructing to strengthen budget control, modernise the economy and prepare for key events of the year.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a ceremony dedicated to the successful completion of the grain harvest. The Head of State congratulated farmers and tenants on this important achievement in the country's agricultural sector. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. The event was attended by members of the government, khakims of velayats and children. Children from all regions of the country congratulated the President of Turkmenistan, read poems and received gifts on behalf of the Head of State. As part of the implementation of strategic objectives for the socio-economic development of the country, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a number of important documents aimed at improving living conditions, modernising the education system and upgrading the skills of civil servants. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. In order to raise the standard of living in the regions and in accordance with the ‘National programme of the President of Turkmenistan for the transformation of social and living conditions of the population of villages, settlements, etrap cities and etrap centers for the period up to 2028,’ the Head of State approved a revised programme. The document is intended to intensify the implementation of the tasks set out in the course of comprehensive regional development. In addition, Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a Decree approving the composition of the State Commission for Admission to Higher and Secondary Vocational Educational Institutions of Turkmenistan for 2025. The commission will provide organisational and methodological support for the admission process, which will take place from 14 July to 25 August 2025. In accordance with the instructions, the khakimliks of the velayats, as well as the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag, have been instructed to ensure conditions for the work of the admissions commissions. In addition, a plan for admission to higher education institutions and secondary vocational schools in the country has been approved. Educational institutions have been instructed to organise entrance exams at their locations. Special attention is paid to training personnel for the civil service. The President of Turkmenistan signed a Decree approving plans for the admission of students to the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Turkmenistan for the 2025–2026 academic year. The document includes retraining and advanced training programmes for members of the Mejlis, members of the Halk Maslahaty, employees of central and local government bodies, as well as paid training programmes for masters and specialists.

Turkmenistan and South Sudan discussed preparations for the UN conference

On 11 July, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, Monday Simaya Kumba. During the conversation, the parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation and coordination of positions in preparation for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC 3). The authoritative Brussels Energy Club hosted a speech by Sapar Palvanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Belgium, dedicated to the country's energy strategy. During the expert round table, the diplomat presented Ashgabat's approach to diversifying natural gas export routes and prospects for cooperation with the European Union in detail. Turkmen cuisine captivates guests at Expo 2025 in Japan

An international project to improve the resilience of cities to climate risks has been launched in Ashgabat

On 10-11 July 2025, Ashgabat hosted a seminar of the regional project ‘Enhancing Urban Resilience to Disaster Risks and Climate Change in Central Asia’, organised by the United Nations Development Programme in cooperation with the Turkmen authorities and with financial support from Japan. The event brought together more than 100 participants, including representatives of government agencies, diplomatic missions, the scientific community and international organisations. The discussions focused on the development of comprehensive approaches to urban planning that take into account the climate risks and natural hazards characteristic of the region. As noted by UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Tomica Paovic, Turkmenistan, like other countries in Central Asia, is facing an increase in extreme weather events. The project will help Ashgabat become a model of sustainable development for the entire region. During the workshop, experts presented methodologies for integrating climate adaptation into urban planning, including risk assessment tools and a roadmap for sustainable development of the capital of Turkmenistan. Particular attention was paid to seismic safety, combating desertification and water resource management. The project provides for the creation of an interdepartmental working group and the development of specific measures to improve the sustainability of urban infrastructure. The solutions obtained can subsequently be scaled up to other cities in Turkmenistan and Central Asia.


‘Turkmenistan Airlines’ launches new international route

From 14 July 2025, Turkmenistan's national carrier will expand its route network by adding a new regular flight between Incheon (South Korea) – Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) – Istanbul (Turkey). Flights will be operated once a week, on Mondays, on Boeing 777 aircraft. This was reported by the IIC. This route connects three key transport hubs: Incheon, the largest air hub in East Asia; Ashgabat, the strategic centre of Central Asia; and Istanbul, one of the most important transfer points between Europe and Asia. The launch of the route was made possible by the deepening of the partnership between Turkmenistan and South Korea, which was officially taken to a new level last year. Experts expect that the new flight will not only increase passenger traffic but also open up additional opportunities for business, tourism and cargo transportation. Turkmen Airlines continues to expand its international presence, strengthening Ashgabat's position as a transit hub on the global air transport map.


Turkmenistan celebrates World Horse Day

Ahal-Tekes, known for their graceful build, endurance and noble temperament, have been loyal companions of the Turkmen people for centuries. Their golden coat and graceful movements have delighted travellers, rulers and artists, and today these horses continue to conquer international exhibitions and sports arenas. Turkmenistan will participate in the anniversary Silk Way Rally

The Silk Way International Rally, celebrating its 15th anniversary, will cover a distance of 2,402.33 km. Representatives from 15 countries, including three teams from the Automobile Sports Federation of Turkmenistan, will take part in the competition. This was reported by the IIC of Turkmenistan. The race is scheduled to start in Irkutsk, then pass through Baikalsk, Buryatia, cross the Russian-Mongolian border, and then pass through Ulan Bator, Bayankhongor, Altai, Khovd and Kosh-Agach. The finish line will be in Gorno-Altaysk on 22 July. The route will pass through picturesque places with a rich history, which will add to the tourist appeal of the rally. In the T2 production off-road vehicle category, the Turkmenistan Automobile Sports Federation will be represented by three crews in Nissan Patrols, including last year's winners, Merdan and Shohrat Toylyev, as well as Maksatmyrat Danatarov and Meylis Abdullayev. In addition to the main competition, 28 off-road vehicles and 5 trucks will compete in the Grand Tour ‘From Baikal to Altai’ category for non-professionals. There will also be a team motorcycle race, the ‘Adventure Trophy’, with 12 participants on production motorcycles, who will tackle special stages after the main race.
