A student from Turkmenistan has been named a winner of the 2026 Charles Scott Prize
06.08.2026Arslan Hojanazarov, a student at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, has become one of the twelve winners of the 2026 Charles Scott Award, established by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). This was reported by the IIC of Turkmenistan. The award is presented annually to students at partner universities for outstanding academic achievement and professional potential in the field of accountancy, following an internal selection process by the educational institutions. Winners receive a cash prize of £150, mentoring support, opportunities for professional networking and official recognition from ICAS. The 2026 winners also include representatives from the universities of Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and other Scottish universities. The awards ceremony took place at ICAS’s headquarters – CA House in Edinburgh – where participants learnt about opportunities to qualify as chartered accountants and develop professional networks.
Students from Turkmenistan won six gold medals at IMC-2026
05.08.2026Turkmen students won 6 gold and 3 silver medals at the 33rd International Mathematics Competition (IMC-2026), held from 27 July to 4 August 2026 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. This was reported by the press office of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University. Around 450 students from various countries took part in the competition. Turkmenistan was represented by students from the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction, the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute, and the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan.
Turkmen students are taking part in a study programme in Kuala Lumpur
04.08.2026Students from the International University for the Humanities and Development are taking part in a summer study programme at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. The placement runs from 19 July to 15 August 2026, according to the news agency Orient. The trip marks a continuation of the collaboration between the two universities following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. As part of the programme, Turkmen students are attending lectures, seminars and interactive training sessions, as well as representing Turkmenistan’s culture at international events. The programme aims to broaden their professional knowledge, familiarise them with the academic environment abroad and enable them to gain practical experience.
Turkmen school students are to take part in the iWISE competition
02.08.2026Ten school students from Turkmenistan will take part in the iWISE (International World Innovative Student Exhibition) international creative competition, which will be held at the University of Surrey in London from 2 to 7 August. This was reported by the online news site AsmanNews. Participants from various countries will present projects in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), robotics, English and the arts. The Turkmen team is accompanied by Myrat Sahetgulyev, a computer science teacher at the 1st Specialised Educational Complex in Arkadag, and Gochmyrat Bayramov, a history teacher at Specialised Secondary School No. 97 with an in-depth language programme in Ashgabat. The country will be represented at the competition by pupils from specialised schools in Ashgabat and Arkadag. In February 2026, they performed successfully at the iWISE GLOBAL FINAL 2026 international robotics Olympiad in Dubai.
Turkmen teachers are attending a professional development course in Nice
29.07.2026Resul Orazberdiyev, a lecturer in the Department of Romance-Germanic Languages at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, is taking part in professional development courses at the Francophonie International Centre in Nice. This was reported by IIC of Turkmenistan. Lecturers from the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages are also taking part in the educational programme. Participants are studying modern methods of teaching foreign languages and new linguistic approaches. The courses are aimed at enhancing the professional skills of specialists and improving the quality of language education at higher education institutions in Turkmenistan. Upon completion of the training, participants will be awarded international certificates.

29.07.2026The international summer camp ‘Youth Development for a Shared Future 2026’ is taking place in Beijing, bringing together students, young professionals and leaders of youth organisations from 15 countries. More than 80 representatives from Turkmenistan are taking part in the event, according to the Orient news agency. Representatives of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan spoke at the opening ceremony, highlighting the camp’s importance for the development of intercultural dialogue and international cooperation. The programme includes educational sessions, training workshops, creative competitions and joint projects aimed at strengthening friendly ties and exchanging experiences.
Turkmen students are taking part in an international educational project
28.07.2026Students from three higher education institutions in Turkmenistan are taking part in the international summer programme ‘UNITEN Energy Adventure Summer Camp’, which is being held in Malaysia from 25 July to 2 August. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The event is being held at the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in Kajang and brings together students from various countries. Turkmenistan is represented by students from the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction, and the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan. As part of the programme, participants are attending lectures and practical sessions on energy, innovative technologies and scientific research, as well as taking part in cultural events. The trip has been organised under cooperation agreements between Turkmen universities and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). The programme aims to promote academic mobility, facilitate the exchange of experience, strengthen international educational ties and enable students to acquire new professional knowledge and practical skills.
A school student from Turkmenistan has won gold at the ‘XCEL Global’ robotics competition
28.07.2026Kurambay Matsapayev from the ‘Line-Storm’ team represented Turkmenistan at the ‘XCEL Global’ international robotics competition in Australia and took first place. This was reported by the Orient news agency. For the ‘ImdatBot’ centre, an official partner of ‘Makeblock’, this victory marked the continuation of a successful year. In May, its students took part in the ‘Robotek Grand Tournament Astana 2026’, where Leysan Jumageldiyeva was awarded a free place to study at the Kazakh-British Technical University, whilst Tigran Melkumyan and Nuryagdy Bayryev won the ‘Innovative Technologies’ category. In 2025, students from the centre also won medals at the ‘XCEL’ Olympiad in Los Angeles. This series of international achievements was the result of systematic training at the centre, which has been teaching children using the ‘STEAM’ methodology since 2019 and developing robotics teams to take part in global competitions.
A delegation from Turkmenistan has completed a training course on the energy transition in Italy
25.07.2026A delegation from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Turkmenistan took part in the international programme ‘School of Policy on Sustainable Energy Transition’, held at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy). This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. Representatives from all five Central Asian countries also took part in the training. The ‘BRIDGE’ programme was organised with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Participants studied current trends in the global energy sector, issues relating to decarbonisation, the development of the “green” economy, the application of artificial intelligence in the energy sector, and the ‘WEFE Nexus’ cross-sectoral approach. As part of the practical component, the delegation visited A2A’s control centre, where they familiarised themselves with digital energy supply management systems and learnt about the company’s experience in implementing projects in the fields of renewable energy and hydropower infrastructure. At the conclusion of the programme, participants were awarded international certificates. The Academy noted that the knowledge gained and the professional contacts established would contribute to the development of international cooperation, the improvement of training for civil servants, and the implementation of modern approaches to Turkmenistan’s energy policy.
Students from Oguz Han University have completed their studies at Tsukuba University
24.07.2026Three students from the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan are taking part in a one-year study programme at Tsukuba University (Japan) as part of a Memorandum of Understanding on academic exchange and cooperation between the two universities. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The programme runs from 1 October 2025 to 31 August 2026. The participants are third-year students who have excelled in their studies: Merdan Allamyradov (Faculty of Cyber-Physical Systems), Selbi Mammetaliyeva and Shasenem Shaberdiyeva (Faculty of Innovation Economics). During the programme, the students studied the humanities, social and international studies, as well as engineering disciplines. They attended specialist lectures, learnt Japanese, and took part in academic events and cultural programmes at the University of Tsukuba. Studying in an international academic environment enabled the students to develop their intercultural communication skills, improve their language proficiency and gain new educational experiences. As part of the programme, the students also showcased the culture and traditions of Turkmenistan, gave presentations on the country’s history and national heritage, and introduced Japanese lecturers and students to traditional Turkmen souvenirs. In addition, the students collaborated with the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Japan and helped organise official events. The academic exchange programme helps to strengthen cooperation between the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan and the University of Tsukuba, as well as to develop educational ties between the two countries.
The use of MICS data in the education sector was discussed in Turkmenistan
24.07.2026UNICEF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, held a two-day workshop on the use of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) data in the planning, development and monitoring of public policy in the field of education. This was reported by the IIC of Turkmenistan. Participants were introduced to the MICS-EAGLE (Education Analysis for Global Learning and Equity) methodology, which enables the analysis of MICS data to identify barriers to quality education and ensure equal opportunities. The seminar was attended by representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, relevant ministries, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy, and other national partners. The seminar reviewed the findings of the latest MICS survey in Turkmenistan, including indicators on early childhood development, pre-school and inclusive education, out-of-school children, youth skills and ICT competencies. Practical sessions focused on data analysis and its application in informing public policy decisions. The event took place as part of UNICEF’s collaboration with the Government of Turkmenistan to build national capacity in the collection, analysis and use of data for social policy planning and monitoring.
Turkmen school pupils have won medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad
22.07.2026Six school students from Turkmenistan represented their country at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad, which took place in Shanghai from 10 to 21 July. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. At the end of the competition, Agaperman Berdimyradov, a 12th grade student at Secondary School No. 40 in the Yoloten etrap of the Mary velayat, won a silver medal. The bronze medallists were Begench Akmyradov, a 12th grade student at Specialised Secondary School No. 49 in Ashgabat, Maliksha Meylismyradov, a 12th-year student at Specialised Secondary School No. 86 in Ashgabat, and Hemra Gurbanov, a 10th-year student at the same school. A total of 685 school pupils from 119 countries took part in the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad.
