Turkmen surgeons have performed selective dorsal rhizotomy for the first time — a complex spinal surgery to treat cerebral palsy in children. This was reported by the IIC of Turkmenistan. The patient was a 10-year-old child diagnosed with cerebral palsy and spastic tetraparesis. The surgery was successful, and the boy is in satisfactory condition. Rhizotomy helps reduce muscle spasticity and improve the motor activity of patients with cerebral palsy. Professor Maximilian Boschick Broneck from Germany, who also conducted consultations and examinations during the working visit, participated in the operation. The operation was part of a healthcare modernisation programme and was carried out with the support of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship. A conference on the digital transformation of the economy was held at the International Scientific-Technological Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. Young artists from Turkmenistan are participating in the international children's creativity festival ‘Өнерлі өрен’ as part of the ‘Aktau – the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World’ project. In early August, the ‘Marco Polo’ Hotel on the shores of picturesque Lake Issyk-Kul hosted the fourth regional seminar on nivale-glacial systems and their role in sustainable development in Central Asia. The VIII Central Asian Expert Forum ‘Central Asia – a common space of trust, security and sustainable development’ is being held in Tashkent on 14-15 August.
