Turkmen athletes won 13 medals at a jiu-jitsu tournament in Rome

The Turkmenistan national team has successfully started its performance at the Mediterranean Open Grand Prix international jiu-jitsu tournament, which is taking place in Rome. On the first day of the competition, Turkmen athletes won 13 medals — five gold, four silver and the same number of bronze. This was reported by the news resource Turkmenportal with reference to the Martial Arts Federation of Turkmenistan.

The championship titles were won by Rahmet Taganov in the weight category up to 69 kg, Bayram Rovshenov (up to 56 kg), Parahat Rahmanov (up to 62 kg), Begli Saparov (up to 69 kg) and Aynur Kullyeva (up to 45 kg). Silver medals went to Bayram Rovshenov (up to 62 kg), Jelilmuhammet Hojamyradov (up to 94 kg), Rahmet Taganov (up to 69 kg) and Hurma Abdyeva (up to 48 kg). Bronze medals were won by Aynur Kullyeva (up to 48 kg), Bayram Rovshenov (up to 56 kg), Jelilmuhammet Hojamyradov (up to 94 kg) and Suray Gokgayeva (up to 57 kg).

Over 760 athletes from 21 countries are taking part in the tournament, including participants competing under the flag of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation (JJIF). The competitions are held in four disciplines: jiu-jitsu, fighting, show and duo, covering age categories from juniors to masters.

Turkmenistan is represented at the competition by a team of 18 athletes. The team is coached by Ilyas Ishangulyev and Rahat Kurbanov under the guidance of Kemal Meredov. The tournament will last until 15 June.
