On Remembrance Day, 6 October, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov laid flowers at the ‘Halk hakydasy’ Memorial Complex at the monuments to the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake and national heroes who died in wars. This was reported by the news website Asmannews.

The ceremony began with the performance of the national anthem and the mourning melody ‘Keçpelek.’ The President of Turkmenistan laid a wreath at the ‘Ruhy tagzym’ monument in memory of the victims of the earthquake, and then at the ‘Milletiň ogullary’ and ‘Baky şöhrat’ monuments dedicated to Turkmen soldiers.

The event was attended by representatives of the government, the diplomatic corps, public organisations and residents of the capital. During the ceremony, it was noted that the memory of the tragic events and the heroism of the ancestors remains an important part of national identity. Ashgabat, destroyed by the 1948 earthquake, has today become a modern and prosperous city, a symbol of the country's rebirth.
