On 4 July 2025, the 17th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation was held in Khankendi under the slogan ‘New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Future.’ The Turkmen delegation was headed by Foreign Affairs Minister Rashid Meredov, who in his speech stressed the importance of developing a new development strategy for the organisation until 2035. This was reported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The Head of the Turkmen Foreign Affairs Ministry emphasised the need to deepen cooperation in key areas, including the creation of effective transport corridors, diversification of energy supplies and the development of renewable energy sources. Particular attention was paid to the proposal to create a special mechanism for coordinating the energy policies of the ECO member countries to ensure the stability of energy supplies in the region.

During the discussion on transport cooperation, Turkmenistan put forward an initiative to further integrate the transport and logistics systems of the organisation's member states. Proposals were also made to intensify business contacts through chambers of commerce and industry and to expand cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The summit participants unanimously noted that the implementation of these initiatives will contribute significantly to strengthening multilateral cooperation and will promote the sustainable development of the entire ECO region.
