During his visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.

The interlocutors noted the high level of political dialogue and mutual understanding between the two countries, as well as the importance of cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats, including within the framework of the UN. The similarity of the foreign policy approaches of Turkmenistan and Austria, based on the principles of neutrality, was emphasised.

The parties paid particular attention to the development of trade and economic ties. Austrian companies traditionally supply Turkmenistan with machinery and equipment for various industries, and the activities of the Turkmen-Austrian Commission were named a key instrument for unlocking the potential of the partnership.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation was also recognised as an important area of interaction: the holding of Viennese balls in Turkmenistan, the participation of musicians in joint projects and festivals.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the Federal President of Austria to attend an international forum in Ashgabat on 12 December 2025, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality and the Year of Peace and Trust. Van der Bellen accepted the invitation, noting the importance of Turkmenistan's peace policy for the international community.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged wishes for health, success and prosperity for the peoples of both countries.
