During his visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Bill Huizenga, Chairman of the Subcommittee on South and Central Asia of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and his deputy Sydney Kai Kamlager-Dove. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation and confirmed their interest in strengthening friendly relations.
The President of Turkmenistan noted the importance of cooperation with the United States in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres, emphasising the significance of the ‘C5+1’ format, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. According to the Head of State, this mechanism has proven itself to be an effective platform for dialogue on security, energy and climate issues.
The importance of parliamentary contacts was highlighted separately. The President of Turkmenistan recalled the visits of American congressmen that were held in Ashgabat and expressed confidence that the further development of interparliamentary cooperation would contribute to strengthening mutual understanding.
Following the meeting, the parties exchanged good wishes and expressed their intention to continue expanding intergovernmental cooperation.
