On June 16, 2026, a meeting was held at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan between representatives of the national parliament and André Allemissen, Regional Representative for Central Asia of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany. During the meeting, it was noted that environmental issues are a priority in the country. National environmental protection programs are being implemented. Support was emphasized for international initiatives of Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring peace, security, and sustainable development.
The guest was briefed on Turkmenistan’s state environmental policy, measures to ensure environmental security, and the development of international cooperation. Achievements in environmental diplomacy were also highlighted.
The Turkmen side stated that it follows a comprehensive approach to climate change issues. Work is ongoing to reduce methane emissions, combat desertification, and preserve biodiversity.
It was also noted that environmental legislation is being improved, with the regulatory framework being aligned with modern requirements.
