Moscow is hosting the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), marking the organization’s 25th anniversary. Turkmenistan is participating in the meeting as a special guest, the International Information Centre of Turkmenistan reports.

GECF member countries account for around 70% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, 38% of global gas production and approximately 42% of international pipeline gas trade. Ahead of the summit, the forum held its 28th Ministerial Meeting, during which GECF Secretary General Philip Mshelbila presented a long-term outlook for the gas industry.

According to the forecast, global gas demand is expected to exceed 5.3 trillion cubic metres by 2050, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) is projected to account for 64% of international gas trade. These anticipated changes point to the need for continued investment in production, infrastructure and technological cooperation.

Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov emphasized the GECF’s strategic role amid the transformation of global energy markets.

Turkmenistan advocates diversifying natural gas supply routes, developing pipeline infrastructure and introducing environmentally friendly technologies. The country’s participation in the summit is aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the energy sector.

The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Moscow Declaration. The document will outline common approaches to developing the gas market, improving supply predictability and expanding export and transportation corridors.
