Large-scale work is under way in Turkmenistan to develop the transport and communications infrastructure. This was stated by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on 23 September at a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty in Ashgabat, according to the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.

The Head of State noted that the development of the transport and logistics system opens up new economic opportunities for the country and the region. Among the priority tasks are increasing the capacity of transport routes, expanding international and transit freight transport, introducing artificial intelligence technologies and developing digital services.

Particular attention is being paid to the national merchant fleet and to utilising the potential of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled that earlier this year, the dry cargo ship ‘Gadamly’, built at the ‘Balkan’ shipbuilding and ship repair yard, completed its first international voyage.

The government will continue to modernise the sector’s material and technical base and to construct new transport and communications infrastructure facilities.
