Within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the 90th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) was held in Borovoe, with Turkmenistan participating online. This was reported by the IIC.

The anniversary meeting on 14 August brought together the heads of water agencies of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and an observer from Kyrgyzstan. The Turkmen side was represented by Durdy Genjiev, Chairman of the State Committee for Water Management.

As a key structural unit of the IFAS, the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination deals with issues of inter-state distribution of water resources for agricultural needs in the region. The commission's meetings are traditionally held twice a year to agree on water withdrawal quotas before the growing season.

The meeting discussed water limits for 2025, the implementation of the decisions of the summits in Turkmenbashi (2018) and Dushanbe (2023), as well as improvements to the structure of the IFAS. Following the meeting, a protocol was signed stating that the next, 91st meeting of the commission will be held in Turkmenistan.
