On 23 September, at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, High Representative of the Alliance of Civilisations Miguel Ángel Moratinos. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The parties discussed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Alliance of Civilisations, noting the importance of dialogue between cultures and religions, strengthening trust and mutual understanding. Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to use the General Assembly platform to promote ideas of peace and cooperation.

An initiative was proposed to carry out joint projects, including in the Central Asian region, as well as to organise an international forum entitled ‘Central Asia – a Space for Building a Peaceful Life’ and a Global Summit on the Culture of Peace under the auspices of UNESCO and the Alliance of Civilisations.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their intention to continue strengthening cooperation in the name of peace and mutual respect.
