During his official visit to Italy, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the opening of the archaeological exhibition ‘Ancient Civilisations of Turkmenistan’ at the Capitoline Museum in Rome. This was reported by the state news agency TDH.

The Head of State was welcomed by the Mayor of the Italian capital, Roberto Gualtieri, who noted that the exhibition, scheduled to run from October 2025 to April 2026, serves as a cultural bridge between Central Asia and Europe.

In his speech, the President of Turkmenistan emphasised the importance of the exhibition for strengthening humanitarian ties and friendship between peoples, noting that it is timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality. The Head of State also expressed confidence that the exhibits on display will be of interest to the general public and will serve to develop international cooperation in the field of archaeology and culture.

The exhibition features rare finds from ancient Margiana and Parthia, civilisations that left a rich cultural heritage, part of which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Of particular interest are items made of gold, bronze and stone, as well as Parthian rhytons made of ivory.

During the event, Memoranda of Understanding were signed between Turkmen museums and the Capitoline Superintendence for Cultural Heritage of Italy.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that cooperation between archaeologists of the two countries has been ongoing for more than three decades and contributes to the promotion of Turkmenistan's cultural heritage on the international arena.

Concluding his visit, the Head of State emphasised that Italian-Turkmen relations are reaching a new level, opening up prospects for further expansion of partnership in the humanitarian and cultural spheres.
