Turkmenistan held celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov laid flowers at the monuments of the memorial complex ‘People’s Memory’. This is reported by the state news agency TDH.

In his festive address, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the contribution of war and labour veterans to the development of the country, education of youth and strengthening of national unity. Veterans and families of the frontline soldiers received congratulations and material assistance from the head of state.

The story of Berdimuhamed Annayev, a war participant, whose war documents and the regiment's banner are kept in the military school named in his honour, became a symbol of the memory of the heroic deeds of Turkmen soldiers.

Victory Day celebrations coincided with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. This year the UN General Assembly reaffirmed the country's status as a neutral state maintaining peace and trust.

A solemn ceremony was held at the ‘People’s Memory’ memorial with the participation of government representatives, veterans, youth and diplomatic corps. The National Anthem was played, wreaths and flowers were laid. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov personally congratulated the war veterans and expressed gratitude for their feat.

Commemorative events, concerts and actions in honour of the heroes were held across the country. Turkmenistan continues the tradition of honouring veterans, considering their contribution as the basis of national pride and historical memory.
