On the sidelines of the 65th session of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), a meeting was held between a delegation from Turkmenistan, headed by Guljemal Charyeva, Director of the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics, and Dr Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the CTBTO. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the current state of the PS44 Primary Seismic Station located in Turkmenistan and outlined further steps to ensure its effective operation as part of the International Monitoring System.

Particular attention was paid to issues of training and strengthening national competencies. In this context, plans were considered to hold a regional training course for National Data Centres (NDCs) in 2026, which will contribute to enhancing technical capacity and developing regional cooperation within the framework of the implementation of the provisions of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the prospects for organising joint events to mark the 30th anniversary of the Treaty, reaffirming Turkmenistan's commitment to the goals of strengthening the global non-proliferation regime and banning nuclear tests.

In addition, the Turkmen delegation held working meetings with the Heads of the Capacity Building and Training Division of the International Data Centre (IDC) and the Operations Division, during which practical areas for further technical cooperation were discussed.
