Turkmenistan and Russia intensify interparliamentary cooperation

During an official visit to the Russian Federation, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Chairwoman of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova visited the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and signed the guest book. This was reported by the press service of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

This was followed by a meeting between D. Gulmanova and Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. The Chairwoman of the Mejlis conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

D. Gulmanova expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to the strengthening of interparliamentary ties and noted her readiness for their further development. The meeting discussed the prospects for cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, including the participation of the Turkmen side in the events of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly.

The interlocutors emphasised the importance of cooperation in the field of international law and the development of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for strengthening friendship between peoples. The role of the interparliamentary friendship group in expanding contacts between committees, young and female deputies, as well as in organising joint conferences, was also noted.

Following the negotiations, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, aimed at further developing parliamentary cooperation.
