A working meeting with a delegation of scientists from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in the conference hall of the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan. The Chinese delegation was headed by the director of the Institute, Professor Abuduwaili Jilili. This is reported by the Internet publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged information on current research and outlined directions for joint work. The presentations of the two countries' specialists provoked a lively discussion, during which the scientists discussed key issues of desert science, including methods of developing arid territories, combating desertification and fixing mobile sands.
Turkmen specialists presented their latest developments in the field of environmental management, which could be useful for their Chinese colleagues. In turn, the guests shared innovative approaches to utilising resources of desert ecosystems and restoring their ecological balance.
As part of the visit, the Chinese delegation visited the experimental sites of the Institute, including the Karrykul site in the Central Karakums. Here, the scientists inspected man-made plantings of pistachio adapted to local conditions, and also studied phytomelioration methods used to fix barchans.
