On the first day of the World Sambo Championships in Bishkek, the Turkmenistan team won two medals: silver and bronze. The competitions are being held at the ‘Gazprom for Children’ complex and have attracted 466 participants from 70 countries. A total of 31 sets of awards are being contested, according to the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.
Madina Aydogdyeva from Turkmenabat won the silver medal in combat sambo in the 54 kg weight class. She reached the final, where she lost to an athlete competing under the flag of the International Sambo Federation.
The bronze medal in the 88 kg weight class went to Abdylla Nazargeldiyev, a student at the Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan. He successfully won two bouts, but lost in the semi-finals and finished third.
At the end of the first day, Turkmenistan ranks sixth in the overall team standings. On the second day, 11 sets of medals will be awarded.
