The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Turkmenistan held a three-day training course for national specialists in demographic research and data analysis. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal.

The event was an important step in preparing for the country's first study of the fertility aspirations of the population. The training was conducted by Professor Dr. Ismet Koç, Director of the Institute of Population Studies at Hacettepe University in Ankara.

Participants learned the methodology for conducting the survey, including data collection and analysis, sample calculation and the development of recommendations. The study aims to understand reproductive intentions, the differences between the desired and actual number of children, and the factors influencing fertility.

The training is part of UNFPA's support to Turkmenistan in preparing, conducting and analysing research, the data from which will help shape policies and programmes for the country's sustainable development and the effective use of the demographic potential of the working-age population.
