The President of Turkmenistan noted the importance of cooperation between states and organisations

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, stressed that the current global situation requires closer cooperation between states and international organisations to maintain peace, security and sustainable development, according to the state news agency TDH.

Head of State said that Turkmenistan had initiated the inclusion of the item ‘Neutrality for Peace and Security’ on the agenda and would present a draft resolution on the role of neutrality in peacekeeping processes. The President of Turkmenistan also recalled that 2025 has been declared the ‘International Year of Peace and Trust’ and announced plans to hold an international forum in Ashgabat, as well as a World Summit on Culture of Peace and Trust.

Among Turkmenistan's initiatives, the following were highlighted: the establishment of an International Day of Mediation, the holding of a forum entitled ‘Central Asia – a Space for Peaceful Coexistence’, the proclamation of a Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035), and the adoption of a resolution on the importance of energy connectivity.

The President of Turkmenistan focused separately on the climate and environmental agenda, proposing the creation of a Regional Centre for Combating Desertification and the promotion of the Caspian Environmental Initiative. The Head of State also spoke in favour of establishing an International Day of Multilingual Diplomacy.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that cooperation with the UN is a strategic priority for Turkmenistan and proposed declaring 2028 the Year of International Law. He also recalled the 30th anniversary of the recognition of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and thanked the international community for its trust.
