President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has travelled to the United States to participate in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, according to the state news agency TDH.

He was seen off at Ashgabat International Airport by representatives of official bodies.

Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its foreign policy based on neutrality, peacefulness and cooperation, attaching particular importance to interaction with the UN.

In the International Year of Peace and Trust, the coincidence of the 30th anniversary of the country's neutral status with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Organisation is seen as a symbolic event. Neutrality, confirmed three times by General Assembly resolutions, remains the basis of Turkmen diplomacy and the development of international relations.
