From October 12 to 16, 2026, the 77-th session of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was held in Geneva. The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by A. Sazakov, Chairman of the State Migration Service, accordıng to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

On October 12 at the plenary session the head of the Turkmen delegation delivered a speech in which he emphasized the priority importance of the humanitarian dimension in the state policy of the country. Participants in the session were also presented with information on the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Eradication of Statelessness and the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to declare 2028 the Year of International Law.

On October 15 A. Sazakov met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Saleh. The parties discussed long-standing cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. Barham Saleh noted the experience of Turkmenistan in Central Asia in eradicating statelessness and granting citizenship to persons, who are in need of protection.
