The 13th annual taekwondo tournament for the Cup of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea was held in Ashgabat with the participation of more than 250 young athletes from all velayats of Turkmenistan. The competition was held at the Martial Arts Centre of the Olympic Town. This was reported by the IIC.

The tournament, organised by the National Taekwondo Centre of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, brought together participants aged 7 to 18. The athletes competed in 29 weight categories. At the end of the competition, the team from Ashgabat took first place in terms of the number of medals won.

Cho Hyun, Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Korea in Turkmenistan, emphasised that the tournament, which has been held since 2010, has become an important part of sports cooperation between the two countries.

Taekwondo, included in the Olympic Games programme since 2000, continues to develop actively in Turkmenistan. The tournament held in Ashgabat demonstrated the growing skill of Turkmen athletes and the popularity of this sport in the country.
