Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with António Guterres

During his visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of State signed the UN Guest Book and took a joint photo with the Secretary-General, according to the state news agency TDH.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated António Guterres on the start of the 80th session of the General Assembly and the 80th anniversary of the UN, and also conveyed greetings from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The UN Secretary-General, in turn, noted Turkmenistan's contribution to addressing regional and global issues and thanked it for organising the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

The parties emphasised the importance of developing the partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN, including the implementation of the Awaza Declaration and Programme of Action, as well as cooperation within the framework of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy. The President of Turkmenistan invited the UN Secretary-General to participate in the International Forum in Ashgabat on 12 December, dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality.

António Guterres thanked him for the invitation and emphasised Turkmenistan's significant role in strengthening peace. At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to further developing their strategic partnership.
