As part of the CADAP 7 programme supported by the European Union, a delegation from Turkmenistan is on a study visit to Spain from 22 to 26 September 2025, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia in the fight against drugs. This was reported by IIC Turkmenistan.

Together with colleagues from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, Turkmen specialists are studying Spain's experience in implementing scientifically based strategies to reduce drug demand.

Over the course of five days, the delegates are meeting with Spanish politicians, practitioners and medical professionals, and visiting key institutions, including the Ministry of Health, the San Isidro shelter, the Madroño mobile unit, the ACDA Addiction Treatment Centre, the ‘Proyecto Hombre Asturias’ programme, the Drug Addiction Treatment Unit in Oviedo and the Intelligence Center for Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO).

The trip serves as a platform for sharing experiences and building institutional capacity, and the knowledge gained will help to improve national strategies for combating psychoactive substances in Turkmenistan and Central Asia and strengthen cooperation with European partners.
