UNICEF and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan have summarized the results of the national “Green Skills” competition, implemented under the “Green School” program in partnership with the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan. This was reported by the IIC.
The competition was held from April to June 2026. The initiative aimed to develop environmental literacy, raise awareness of climate change, introduce project-based learning, and promote civic engagement, including the participation of children with disabilities.
A total of 42 project proposals were submitted by schools across the country. The projects covered topics such as energy efficiency, responsible consumption, waste management, biodiversity conservation, sustainable water use, climate change adaptation, environmental education, and community initiatives.
All participants received certificates. The winning schools were awarded educational and environmental prizes, including gardening tools, school garden kits, books, and nature encyclopedias. Coordinating teachers were recognized for their mentorship and support of students.
The Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Alexander Amanov, noted that the competition demonstrated a high level of environmental awareness and creative potential among young people.
The UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan, Jalpa Ratna, emphasized that the initiative shows young people’s readiness to engage in solving environmental and climate challenges and to become a source of positive change in their communities.
