The Chairman of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan (FFT), Guvanchmuhammet Ovekov, has been elected a member of the FIFA Technical Development Committee. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal.

His election to this body, which includes only 24 specialists from 211 federations, underscores the international recognition of the successes of Turkmen football.

The Federation is currently implementing FIFA's ‘Football for Schools’ and ‘Talent Development Scheme’ programmes, as well as improving the qualifications of children's coaches, laying the foundation for preparing future footballers for international competitions.

The FIFA Technical Development Committee supports youth, women's and grassroots football and promotes coach education. Committee members analyse and approve football development projects, opening up new opportunities for the progress of Turkmen football.

G. Ovekov has headed the FFT since November 2024. After his playing career, he worked as a coach and managed the ‘Ahal’ and ‘Arkadag’ clubs, played for the Turkmenistan national team and clubs abroad, including in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. As part of the national team, he became the only Turkmen player to score four goals in a single official match — against Afghanistan in the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008.
