The fourth phase of development is currently underway at the ‘Galkynyş’ gas field. The project involves the construction of infrastructure to process an additional 10 billion cubic metres of marketable gas per year. This was announced on 23 September at a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty by the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, according to the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.

According to the Hero Arkadag, this new phase will enable an increase in natural gas production, expand export opportunities and create new jobs.

The phased development of the ‘Galkynyş’ project forms part of the country’s ‘Oil and Gas Industry Development Programme for the period up to 2030’. The programme provides for the modernisation of the fuel and energy sector, an increase in production and the diversification of export routes.

Among the major energy projects, the ‘Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India’ (TAPI) gas pipeline was also highlighted, which is aimed at developing socio-economic cooperation in the region.
