The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), held in Bangkok, according to the press service of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the sidelines of the session, a ministerial meeting of the participating countries of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was held. A joint statement was adopted following the meeting. Participants discussed the “SPECA Development Concept until 2030,” as well as issues of transport connectivity, trade facilitation, and digitalization. Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to participate in projects of the SPECA Multi-Partner Trust Fund.
Addressing the ESCAP session, the head of the Turkmen delegation presented an initiative to establish a Regional Center for Combating Desertification for Central Asian countries as a specialized ESCAP institution. Initiatives by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, aimed at strengthening the region’s climate resilience were also promoted.
The 83rd ESCAP session will be held in Shanghai from April 26 to 30, 2027.
