A meeting was held in Ashgabat to update the list of practical measures voluntarily adopted by Turkmenistan as part of its implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries, international organisations and national focal points for three global UN conventions: on climate change, combating desertification and biodiversity. Participants emphasised the interconnection between these processes: climate change leads to transformations in nature and a reduction in biodiversity.

New areas of work and an updated list of mitigation and adaptation measures were discussed. The completion of Turkmenistan's Fourth National Communication on Climate Change was also reported.

It was noted that in the future, countries will provide biennial reports so that international experts have up-to-date data for analysing global climate trends. Reports on the social consequences of climate change and proposals for improving the structure of the updated document were of particular interest.
