Ashgabat celebrated the 80th anniversary of the UN and signed a new cooperation programme

On 23 October 2025, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan (IIR MFA) hosted a conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. This was reported by the press service of the MFA of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by representatives of government agencies, diplomatic missions, international organisations, teachers and students, as well as the media. The conference was opened by Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the IIR MFA of Turkmenistan.

Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov read out a congratulatory message from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov. In his speech, R. Meredov noted the country's unwavering commitment to strengthening its partnership with the UN and emphasised Turkmenistan's contribution to promoting the ideas of peace, trust and sustainable development.

The conference discussed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN system, ranging from education and health care to the environment, digital transformation and gender equality. Particular attention was paid to issues of energy and environmental security, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and cooperation with the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy.

Following the forum, the signing of the Framework Programme for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN for 2026-2030 was held, defining the strategic priorities for joint work.
