Following negotiations in Ashgabat between Rashid Meredov, Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkmenistan, and Toshimitsu Motegi, Foreign Affairs Minister of Japan, a Programme of Cooperation between the two countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs for 2027–2029 was signed. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of political and diplomatic, trade and economic, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The Japanese side reaffirmed its support for Turkmenistan’s foreign policy of permanent neutrality. The parties also highlighted their cooperation within the framework of the UN and the ‘Central Asia + Japan’ format.

Particular attention was paid to economic partnership. The prospects for cooperation in gas chemistry, the electricity sector, transport, as well as in the fields of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence were discussed.

In addition, the parties reviewed preparations for the joint meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation, which is scheduled to take place in Tokyo this year, as well as the development of ties in the fields of education and culture.
