During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Turkmenistan and Russia Strengthen Coordination in the Field of Biosafety

Turkmenistan Showcases Cultural Heritage at the National Museum in Bucharest

Visitors were presented with Turkmen carpets, decorative and applied arts, national costumes, jewelry, and photographic materials reflecting the country’s cultural heritage and contemporary development. Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s role in international humanitarian cooperation, including its collaboration with the United Nations and UNESCO in the preservation of cultural heritage. The exhibition highlighted the role of culture as an instrument of international dialogue and the strengthening of interstate relations.
Turkmenistan and Tajikistan Discuss Cooperation within UNESCO

Turkmenistan called for the development of regional projects in Afghanistan
10.06.2026Turkmenistan presented its position on promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan at a meeting of the UN Security Council, according to IIC. Speaking at the briefing, the Turkmen delegation noted that, as a neighboring state, Turkmenistan is interested in ensuring stability and security in Afghanistan. The implementation of major regional infrastructure projects was identified as one of the key factors for the country’s long-term development. Turkmen U20 football team to begin fight for a spot at the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup
10.06.2026The Turkmenistan youth national team (U20) will play against Iraq, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates in the qualification tournament for the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup. The draw results were announced at the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation in Kuala Lumpur. This was reported by the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”. The Turkmen team has been placed in Group F. Matches will be held in Thailand in a round-robin format. The qualification stage will take place from August 25 to September 6, 2026. A total of 32 teams will take part, divided into eight groups. Group winners and the seven best second-placed teams will qualify for the final tournament. The AFC U20 Asian Cup will be held in a new format for the first time, introducing a two-tier system with promotion and relegation. Teams finishing last in their groups will move down to the Development Division in the next edition. The final tournament will take place in China from March 24 to April 10, 2027. The Turkmenistan squad is being prepared by a coaching staff led by Didar Hajiyev, with assistants Dayanch Karadzhayev and goalkeeping coach Saparmurat Ovezov.
Ashgabat hosts international ERASMUS+ seminar
10.06.2026An international educational seminar has begun in Ashgabat within the framework of the ERASMUS+ programme under the ESGCA project, aimed at introducing environmental and social governance standards into the higher education system. This was reported by the IIC. The official opening ceremony took place at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas. Representatives of the university administration delivered welcoming remarks, along with the rector of the University of Genoa (Italy), who joined the ceremony online. On the first day, participants attended lectures by university professors dedicated to the key principles and approaches of the ESG concept. In the evening, a delegation of Italian professors arrived at Ashgabat International Airport. The guests were welcomed by representatives of the Turkmen university and escorted to the “Sport” hotel. The working programme of the foreign specialists in Ashgabat will last for one week.
A Turkmen-Chinese expedition has studied key desert ecosystems of the Karakum Desert
10.06.2026A joint desert expedition conducted by the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been completed in Turkmenistan, according to the IIC. The collected materials will be used by Turkmen scientists to update the Red Book and to create an atlas of desert flora, while Chinese specialists will conduct a comparative analysis of the ecosystems of the Karakum Desert and the Taklamakan Desert. The research route covered key natural areas of the country, including the Central Karakum research station “Garryköl,” saxaul forests in the Bokurdak and Erbent regions, the Darvaza gas crater, as well as the Kaplankyr Nature Reserve and the Tarimgaya and Zengi-Baba Lake areas, where monitoring of birds, plants, reptiles, and soil studies was carried out. The expedition also passed through the Unguz depression and the “Bereketli Garagum” reserve, where vegetation measurements and assessments of desertification levels were conducted. In remote villages, research stations were established. The final destination was the Repetek Biosphere Reserve (a UNESCO site), where scientists studied the museum, library, and early 20th-century herbarium, as well as natural features including a century-old saxaul tree and an ancient well. The participants noted the region’s natural characteristics and concluded the expedition with a return to Ashgabat.
