UNICEF and the UK are developing inclusive schools in Turkmenistan

UNICEF and the British Embassy in Turkmenistan have joined forces to support inclusive education reform. The partnership will continue to fund a pilot project that, for the first time in the country, systematically integrates children with disabilities into the general education system, according to the news website Asmannews. The project is based in two schools and two kindergartens in Ashgabat with the aim of creating a national model for subsequent scaling up. The main areas of work are infrastructure and accessibility, combating stigma and training. The initiative is being implemented in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and supports the National Concept of Inclusive Education. British Ambassador Stephen Conlon called the project an important step towards removing barriers, while UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Jalpa Ratna emphasised that it helps every child, including children with disabilities, to learn and develop in an inclusive environment.


Turkmenistan develops expertise in renewable energy at training course in Florence

A delegation from Turkmenistan took part in a training course on the regulation and integration of renewable energy, which was held from 29 September to 1 October 2025 at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy). This was reported by the news website Asmannews. The event, organised by the Florence School of Regulation (FSR) in collaboration with European partners, brought together politicians, regulators and experts from around the world. The Turkmen delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Concern ‘Türkmengaz’, the Ministry of Energy and the State Energy Institute. The programme included discussions on international experience in the field of renewable energy, investment support mechanisms, network development, and innovative Power-to-X technologies. Participation in the course was part of the EU-funded project ‘EU for a green Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action 2024-2028’, financed by the EU and the German Foreign Ministry, and was a step towards strengthening international cooperation and promoting sustainable development goals.


Turkmenistan presented new horizons for energy at a forum in Geneva

Turkmenistan took part in the UNECE Sustainable Energy Week in Geneva. The delegation was led by Vekilmuhammet Ussayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Concern ‘Türkmennebit’, according to the Orient news agency. During the meetings, strategic directions for the development of global and regional energy systems were discussed. The main theme of the event was ‘Just Transition for Building Resilient Energy Systems.’ Representatives of Turkmenistan emphasised the country's balance between the use of hydrocarbon potential and the introduction of ‘green’ technologies. The forum focused on cooperation between SPECA countries and the role of energy as the basis for economic interaction. Discussions covered the development of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, the digital transformation of systems and training, as well as issues of sustainable mobility and access to modern technologies. Participation in the Week allowed Turkmenistan to present its achievements in energy security, set priorities for 2026–2027, and exchange experiences with international experts.


Turkmenistan's transport sector shows impressive growth in 9 months

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakyev presented the results of the work of subordinate structures for the first nine months of 2025. The growth rate of services provided by the transport and communications complex was 114%, according to the state news agency TDH. The freight transport plan was fulfilled by 101.3%, and the passenger transport plan by 104.9%. The growth rates in individual departments reached: Ministry of Rail Transport – 105.1%, Ministry of Road Transport – 113.6%, ‘Türkmenhowaýollary’ – 114.9%, Sea and River Transport – 107.8%, Ministry of Communications – 120.1%. After hearing the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasised the need for further development of the complex and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to take measures to increase transport volumes and ensure favourable conditions for international transit.


Dancers from Turkmenistan surprised the audience in Almaty

From 22 September to 3 October, Turkmen dancers took part in an intercultural dance event in Almaty at the ‘Jolda Dance Theatre’. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The project was a continuation of the cooperation previously initiated by the French Institute in Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Culture: at the beginning of the year, they presented a performance dedicated to the folk dance kushtdepdi, with the participation of international choreographers and state ensembles. The artists who stood out in the production were sent to Kazakhstan for an exchange of experience and creative interaction. In Almaty, they attended master classes, met representatives of the theatre and music scene, and worked on their own numbers under the guidance of a curator. The final performance took place on 3 October at the ‘Jolda Dance Theatre’.


Turkmenistan wished Tajikistan peace and prosperity

Turkmenistan's construction and industrial complex demonstrates strong results

On 3 October, during a government meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Baymyrat Annamammedov presented a report on the work of the construction and industrial complex for January–September of this year. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. During the period under review, the plan for production and work performed was fulfilled by 105%. Thus, the Ministry of Construction and Architecture achieved results of 114.3%, the Ministry of Industry and Construction Production – 108.5%, the Ministry of Energy – 109.5%, and the State Concern ‘Türkmenhimiýa’ – 101.1%. The State Agency for Road Construction fulfilled the plan by 103.3%, and the work carried out by the Ashgabat City Administration amounted to 99 million manats. After hearing the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasised the importance of increasing production volumes, commissioning new enterprises and making effective use of capacity. The Head of State instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to strictly monitor the timely completion of construction and commissioning of facilities planned for the current year.


A female bear named Aydere will arrive in Ashgabat from the Moscow Zoo

A brown bear named Aydere will soon be brought to the National Museum of Living Nature of Turkmenistan (Ashgabat Zoo). This was reported by the online news resource TerraNews. The Moscow Zoo is donating the animal as part of a cooperation programme. This was announced by the museum's scientific consultant, Doctor of Biological Sciences Eldar Rustamov. Aydere will become a companion for the brown bear Sumbar, who arrived in Ashgabat a year ago from the Volokolamsk Centre of the Moscow Zoo. According to Rustamov, the plan is to move the female bear in with Sumbar so that the animal ‘doesn't get bored.’ The expert added that there are plans to bring other animals from Moscow, including lions.


Turkmenistan and UAE strengthen railway cooperation

From 30 September to 4 October, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Minister of Rail Transport Mammet Akmammedov visited Abu Dhabi to participate in the ‘Global Rail’ international exhibition and conference. This was reported by the Orient news agency. The ministry presented its international projects and transport infrastructure models at the exhibition. On the first day, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei noted the achievements of bilateral cooperation in the railway industry. On the same day, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Rail Transport of Turkmenistan and the ‘Etihad Rail Company’ joint-stock company, aimed at the joint implementation of railway projects abroad, the exchange of experience and the attraction of investment. Later, a meeting was held with the CEO of ‘Etihad Rail Company’, Shadi Malak, at which foreign projects and the strengthening of cooperation were discussed. Shadi Malak announced a planned visit to Turkmenistan in the first half of October. As part of ‘Global Rail’, a meeting was also held with Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Deputy Minister of Public Works of Afghanistan. The meeting focused on increasing freight traffic, the progress of construction of a warehouse at the Turgundi station, and the Turgundi-Herat railway project, which is of humanitarian and strategic importance for the region. The programme concluded with a meeting with Rashed Mohammed Al Kaabi, Deputy Director General of the ‘Abu Dhabi Development Fund’, at which issues related to the financing of railway projects and possible support were discussed.

This was reported by the Orient news agency. The article highlights Turkmenistan's contribution to regional stability and international security. Serayev's series of publications reveals the historical significance of Turkmenistan's neutrality, which was officially recognised by the UN General Assembly in 1995 and reaffirmed in 2015 and 2025. This status contributes to stability, inter-state contacts and regional cooperation. Turkmenistan actively uses its neutral status as a venue for negotiation. Ambassador also noted the country's participation in international initiatives, including the resolution ‘2025: International Year of Peace and Trust,’ and announced a forum to be held in Ashgabat on 12 December in honour of these events. ‘Diplomat Magazine’ is a leading European platform for diplomatic dialogue, bringing together politicians, experts and government institutions.


Turkmen sambo wrestlers started the world championship with two silver medals

On the first day of the World Youth and Junior Sambo Championships in Indonesia, Turkmen athletes won two silver medals. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The tournament is being held in Bogor, West Java, at the JSI Resort Megamendung arena, where 37 sets of awards are contested over three days among boys, girls and juniors (aged 16-20) in sports and combat sambo. Each athlete can compete in only one discipline, age group and weight category. In combat sambo among juniors up to 64 kg, 18-year-old Rasul Jabrailov won silver. In the final, he lost to a Russian athlete competing under the FIAS flag. In the weight category up to 88 kg, 19-year-old Malikberdi Begiyev won the silver medal, losing in the final to another Russian athlete competing under the FIAS flag. FIAS President Vasily Shestakov noted that holding the championship in Indonesia contributes to the development of sambo in Southeast Asia and confirms its growing global popularity. The competition continues.


Ashgabat has become an international sporting arena

On 4 October, the Fitness Games International CrossFit Competition was held at the Indoor Athletics Arena of the Olympic Village in Ashgabat. The event was organised by the UAE Embassy in Turkmenistan with the support of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sport in honour of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries, according to the online publication Arzuw News. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of government agencies, the diplomatic corps, the media and students. The programme was enhanced by demonstration performances by the participants. Turkmen athletes, gymnasts, martial arts masters, amateur athletes from Ashgabat and diplomats took part in the competitions. The programme included a family run with children, a dance competition and a burpee complex. The winners were awarded valuable prizes from the UAE Embassy. Fly Dubai tickets were also raffled off, and guests were offered traditional treats. The UAE Ambassador noted the successful development of relations between the two countries over three decades and thanked the leadership of Turkmenistan for strengthening cooperation.
