Geneva became the venue for Turkmenistan's forum on neutrality issues

An international forum organised by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, in conjunction with the Geneva Centre for Neutrality and the Greater Caspian Association, was held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. This was reported by the IIC. More than 300 diplomats, politicians, economists and experts took part in the event to discuss the role of neutrality in contemporary global challenges. Tatyana Valovaya, Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva, delivered a welcoming speech. The forum programme included three sessions, during which diplomatic stability, the investment climate, artificial intelligence regulation and digital security were discussed. The forum concluded with closing remarks and an informal reception, allowing participants to exchange experiences and strengthen professional contacts. Experts emphasised the growing importance of neutrality as a tool for development, dialogue and trust in the 21st century.


New Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ethiopia discussed prospects for bilateral relations

On 10 October, in Addis Ababa, the newly appointed Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (residing in Ankara), Mekan Ishangulyev, presented copies of his credentials to the Director General of the Diplomatic Protocol Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Aziza Geleta Dessalegn. Turkmenistan calls on CIS countries to establish Caspian logistics hub

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe, emphasised the importance of active participation by the Commonwealth countries in the creation of a Caspian logistics hub. This was reported by the news agency ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. The Head of State recalled that the issue of developing the Caspian direction had previously been raised at the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The conference noted that the transit and logistics potential of the Caspian region is becoming increasingly important internationally. ‘It is through the Caspian region that the main vertical and horizontal Eurasian transport routes will pass, from the Asia-Pacific region to Europe and the Middle East, from Russia to the South, to Iran, India and the Gulf countries. It is necessary for the Commonwealth countries to participate fully in the formation of the Caspian logistics hub, to establish and strengthen their positions in this project on a mutually beneficial and coordinated basis,’ said Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The President of Turkmenistan also noted that Ashgabat is ready to contribute to the development of this initiative and discuss with partners practical issues of using Turkmenistan's port infrastructure on the Caspian Sea in the interests of mutual cooperation.

Turkmenistan's Foreign Affairs Minister Rashid Meredov took part in a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, which was held on 9 October in Dushanbe. This was reported by the online news resource TerraNews. The Heads of Foreign Affairs discussed topical issues on the regional and international agenda, the current state and prospects of cooperation within the Commonwealth. Particular attention was paid to the development of economic, digital, transport and humanitarian ties. Separate consideration was given to issues of preserving historical and cultural heritage, supporting theatre, music and cinema, as well as training personnel for the cultural sphere. Following the meeting, a plan for multi-level inter-ministerial consultations within the CIS for 2026 was approved. The next meeting of foreign ministers will be held on 17 April 2026 in Kaliningrad.

The delegation of Turkmenistan spoke at the OSCE Human Dimension Conference in Warsaw, organised by Finland and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the OSCE, Hemra Amannazarov, emphasised Turkmenistan's commitment to cooperation with the OSCE and its institutions. During his speech, he noted the country's achievements in the field of human rights, social policy and humanism. In particular, on 26 September, in honour of the 34th anniversary of independence, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov pardoned 225 convicts, and 142 foreigners received residence permits. Turkmenistan also completed the settlement of all cases of statelessness on its territory, which was confirmed by the UNHCR and cemented the country's leadership in the global #IBelong campaign. In addition, Turkmenistan's initiative on the International Day of Multilingual Diplomacy at the 80th session of the UN highlighted its commitment to intercultural dialogue and respect for cultural diversity. The country expressed its readiness to continue cooperating with the OSCE and other international institutions to promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

Turkmenistan and the UAE expand trade ties

A delegation from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, under the headship of its Chairman Mergen Gurdov, took part in the second Turkmenistan-UAE Business Forum, which was held at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The forum was organised jointly with the SCCI with the support of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the UAE and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the UAE. Representatives of government agencies and the private sector of both countries took part in the forum. M. Gurdov noted that dialogue at a high political level contributes to the active development of trade and economic ties. He emphasised Turkmenistan's desire to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment. SCCI Chairman Abdallah Sultan Al Owais expressed his readiness to support Turkmen business. The forum presented investment opportunities in the UAE, while Turkmen entrepreneurs showcased projects in industry, agriculture, energy and logistics. An exhibition of Turkmen goods was held, ranging from food products and textiles to building materials, and bilateral meetings between business representatives of the two countries were held. The Turkmen delegation also visited Sharjah's permanent industrial exhibition, learning about the activities of local enterprises and current trends in the development of the UAE's manufacturing sector.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, held in Dushanbe and chaired by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. In his speech, the Head of State emphasised the importance of the CIS as an effective platform for equal dialogue and joint decision-making on pressing issues. Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan, adhering to the principle of neutrality, actively participates in economic, transport and logistics, energy and humanitarian cooperation within the Commonwealth. The Head of State emphasised the importance of implementing the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030, expanding the North-South and East-West transport corridors, and the participation of countries in the region in the formation of the Caspian logistics hub. The President of Turkmenistan paid particular attention to the development of innovative and scientific-technical cooperation, as well as the strengthening of cultural and educational ties. The President of Turkmenistan announced his country's readiness to assume the chairmanship of the CIS in 2026 and promised that a concept for the chairmanship aimed at further strengthening cooperation between the Commonwealth countries would be presented in the near future. During the summit, the results of the CIS's work over the year were summarised, priorities for the next period were identified, and a number of documents were signed. The decision was made on 10 October at the summit of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe, which was attended by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. This was reported by the news website Asmannews. The next meeting of the Commonwealth leaders will be held in Turkmenistan on 9 October 2026. Speaking at the summit, Serdar Berdimuhamedov presented initiatives to strengthen the economic and transit potential of the CIS. The President of Turkmenistan emphasised the need for full implementation of the Economic Development Strategy until 2030 and noted the formation of key North-South and East-West transport and logistics routes, in which Central Asia and the Caspian region should play a central role. The Head of State also proposed developing technological partnerships, joint production and knowledge exchange within the CIS. The President of Turkmenistan noted that in the context of a difficult international situation, the Commonwealth remains a platform for equal cooperation, calling for the strengthening of international law and the UN Charter, including regular consultations between the foreign ministries of the CIS countries. In addition, Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the leaders of the Commonwealth to Ashgabat on 12 December to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and assured them that the country would responsibly fulfil its functions as the future chair.
