Ashgabat discussed cooperation between universities in Turkmenistan and Iran
16.01.2026On 14 January, a meeting was held at Magtymguly Turkmen State University with the participation of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Cultural Advisor Abdolreza Abbasi, the university rector and university management. This was reported by the university's press service. The parties discussed the development of cooperation between higher education institutions in Turkmenistan and Iran. The agenda included issues related to holding a Persian language competition, participation in international events, implementation of joint cultural projects, as well as cooperation in the fields of science, education and culture. The Third International Mathematics Olympiad for schoolchildren will be held in Ashgabat
16.01.2026The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan will hold the Third International Mathematical Olympiad for schoolchildren in Ashgabat from 8 to 13 April. This was reported by the news website Asmannews. Registration for participants and team leaders will run from 15 January to 1 April. Schoolchildren and recent school leavers from Turkmenistan and other countries are invited to participate. The Olympiad will be held in an individual format in one round, with Turkmen, Russian and English as the working languages. Participants will be offered two levels of difficulty — categories A and B, with age restrictions depending on the category. The number of participants from one country is not limited. The organisers will provide accommodation, meals, transport and a cultural programme for the duration of the competition.

As part of state programmes, kindergartens, schools, universities and health centres have been put into operation and continue to be built throughout the country. The educational buildings are equipped with modern equipment, multimedia systems, computers and internet access, according to the state news agency TDH. Several kindergartens and new schools have been opened in Ashgabat to mark Knowledge and Student Youth Day, including in the Parahat-7 and Choganly residential complexes. A new school has also been put into operation in the Lebap velayat. First-graders traditionally received ‘Bilimli’ laptops as gifts. The use of interactive forms of teaching is expanding in schools and universities. Particular attention is being paid to training specialists for various sectors of the economy and linking education, science and production. In 2025, the International University of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs was opened. New facilities of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan have been commissioned in Mary, including an educational building, a dormitory and a sports complex. 15.01.2026From 12 to 13 January, representatives of the University of Westminster (United Kingdom) — Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Science and Educational Exchange Andrew Linn and Research Fellow, Doctor of Philosophy Anastasiya Bezborodova — visited Magtymguly Turkmen State University as part of a programme to accelerate English language learning in Central Asia. A lecturer from a Turkmen university is undergoing advanced training in South Korea

Saparova, a Korean language teacher at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, is participating in a professional training programme on the development of higher education in Central Asia, which is being held from 7 to 15 January in the Republic of Korea, as part of a Memorandum of Cooperation with Kangwon National University. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The programme is aimed at exchanging experience in working with foreign students, improving the quality of Korean language teaching, introducing modern teaching methods, using authentic and culturally-oriented teaching materials, and preparing teachers for the ‘TOPIK’ international exam. Turkmen university holds online lecture on the role of the UN in the world

The IIR MFA of Turkmenistan discussed the importance of the Arabic language and multilingual diplomacy

China has donated 190 textbooks to a Turkmen university

Turkmen student wins international competitions
29.12.2025Gadyr Orazberdiyev, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Ecology of the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan, demonstrated high results at international competitions, confirming the competitiveness of Turkmen student youth. This was reported by IIC. In the 2025–2026 academic year, he took part in the international competition ‘Leader of the 21st Century’, organised by the Innovative Research Centre ‘Bilim-orkenieti’. Based on the results of the assessment of academic achievements and leadership skills, Gadyr Orazberdiyev became the winner, receiving a first-degree diploma, an honorary badge and a cup. His potential was further confirmed by his participation in the international competition ‘Best Student of the CIS’, held by the ‘Bilim-orkenieti’ National Innovative Research Centre in conjunction with the ‘Žana Kazakhstan’ Republican Innovative Centre.
