A female bear named Aydere will arrive in Ashgabat from the Moscow Zoo

A brown bear named Aydere will soon be brought to the National Museum of Living Nature of Turkmenistan (Ashgabat Zoo). This was reported by the online news resource TerraNews. The Moscow Zoo is donating the animal as part of a cooperation programme. This was announced by the museum's scientific consultant, Doctor of Biological Sciences Eldar Rustamov. Aydere will become a companion for the brown bear Sumbar, who arrived in Ashgabat a year ago from the Volokolamsk Centre of the Moscow Zoo. According to Rustamov, the plan is to move the female bear in with Sumbar so that the animal ‘doesn't get bored.’ The expert added that there are plans to bring other animals from Moscow, including lions.


In honour of Independence Day, buildings in Ankara were transformed into the colours of the Turkmen flag

As part of the CADAP 7 programme supported by the European Union, a delegation from Turkmenistan is on a study visit to Spain from 22 to 26 September 2025, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia in the fight against drugs. Together with colleagues from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, Turkmen specialists are studying Spain's experience in implementing scientifically based strategies to reduce drug demand. Over the course of five days, the delegates are meeting with Spanish politicians, practitioners and medical professionals, and visiting key institutions, including the Ministry of Health, the San Isidro shelter, the Madroño mobile unit, the ACDA Addiction Treatment Centre, the ‘Proyecto Hombre Asturias’ programme, the Drug Addiction Treatment Unit in Oviedo and the Intelligence Center for Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO). The trip serves as a platform for sharing experiences and building institutional capacity, and the knowledge gained will help to improve national strategies for combating psychoactive substances in Turkmenistan and Central Asia and strengthen cooperation with European partners.

A seminar on protecting grain crops has begun in Ashgabat

BOMCA 10 provided Turkmenistan with equipment for quarantine control

As part of the ‘Border Management in Central Asia’ (BOMCA 10) programme, the State Plant Quarantine Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan received new IT and laboratory equipment worth €17,598. In addition, the service received eight laser printers and one colour printer. To improve the efficiency of cargo control through the Single Window for Export and Import Operations system, specialists received four tablets. New ‘Yutong’ buses launched in Ashgabat

New ‘Yutong’ buses have been introduced on city routes in Ashgabat. These modern 12-metre vehicles with three doors and air conditioning have already begun transporting passengers, according to the news website Turkmenportal. The vehicles are equipped with Euro-5 engines and a cashless payment system. For safety and convenience, there are devices to monitor passenger boarding and alighting, video surveillance, GPS and cameras that track the bus's movement and the driver's performance.
