A regional ITF Level 2 coaching seminar was held in Turkmenistan

From 1 to 12 August 2025, the Ashgabat Olympic City Tennis Complex hosted a prestigious Level 2 regional seminar organised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The event brought together 15 coaches from Turkmenistan, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan. The training course was conducted by certified ITF experts Seyedamir Borghei (Iran) and Igor Shelyakin (Uzbekistan). This was reported by the online publication ‘Turkmenistan: Golden age’. Over the course of 12 days, participants underwent intensive training, including 37 online courses through the ITF Academy platform and five practical exams. The programme covered methods for conducting individual and group training, modern approaches to testing athletes and issues related to the organisation of the competition process. Coaches who successfully pass the certification will receive an international certificate entitling them to train players for participation in top-level tournaments. As part of the development of its educational infrastructure, the Turkmenistan Tennis Federation plans to hold a ‘Play tennis’ seminar for beginner coaches from 28 to 31 August 2025. The event will be conducted by local ITF-licensed specialists.


TESOL conference for English teachers held in Ashgabat

The international conference ‘TESOL: Technology, Teaching, and Transformation’ has kicked off in Ashgabat. The forum, organised with the support of the US Embassy as part of the ELCD programme, brought together around 250 English teachers from all over Turkmenistan. This was reported by the news agency Orient. The event is being held at the International University for the Humanities and Development with the participation of the International Association of TESOL and QED Group, LLC. The aim of the conference is to introduce teachers to modern approaches to teaching English and to create a platform for the exchange of experience. Over the course of three days, experts from the United States and Turkmenistan will give lectures and master classes. Speakers include Dr. Beth Clark-Gareca, Dr. Manuel Gomez Portillo, Lisa Mann, as well as Turkmen teachers Sulgun Saryeva, Bahar Bahbidova, Maksatmyrat Ilamanov, Dr. Meretguly Gurbanov and Jebran Hudayberdiyev. They will present practical solutions for implementing technologies, developing communication skills and creating ‘talking classrooms’. The conference not only strengthens international cooperation, but also promotes the introduction of innovations in education, which improves the quality of training for future specialists and their readiness for global integration.


Turkish expert to visit Kids Expo exhibition in Ashgabat

The Kids Expo 2025 international exhibition will welcome a special guest: Turkish memory and mental ability expert Melik Duyar, known as ‘Mr Memory’ and a Guinness World Record holder. This was reported by the news agency Orient. He founded the World Mental Olympics and the MEMORIAD international competition in speed reading, mental arithmetic and memory training. The exhibition will host the final of the mental arithmetic competition, where Mr Duyar will be a special guest, inspiring the young participants. His participation emphasises that Kids Expo not only entertains but also develops children's potential by providing access to global educational practices. The exhibition will be held from 21 to 23 August at the Exhibition Centre of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.


New Indian ambassador appointed to Turkmenistan

The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the appointment of Bandara Wilsonbabu as the country's new Ambassador to Turkmenistan, according to the news website Asmannews. Previously, B. Wilsonbabu represented India in Madagascar and also served as joint secretary in the department responsible for relations with the Eurasian region. According to official data, the diplomat will soon take up his duties. He will replace Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat, who has held the post since February 2024.


Turkmenistan discusses transition to Li-Fi

A conference on digital economy and innovation was held at the International Scientific-Technological Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, according to the news website Asmannews. Experts presented new developments in ICT and cybersecurity. Ahmet Esenov's report on Li-Fi technology, which transmits data via LED lamps, attracted particular attention. This technology offers speeds faster than Wi-Fi and opens up prospects for education, medicine, transport and ‘smart’ cities. Other topics discussed included cyber security, electronic document management, the use of alternative energy sources and geoinformation systems. Nikolay Nikolayev presented the QField tool for managing natural resources and urban development. Participants noted that such initiatives are in line with Turkmenistan's digital transformation strategy and the development of an innovative economy.


The JLPT exam will be held in Ashgabat in December

The second Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) of 2025 will be held in Ashgabat on 7 December. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The JLPT is the largest international Japanese language test, held annually in Japan and abroad. The exam is intended for non-native speakers of Japanese and certifies the language proficiency of participants. Applications will be accepted by the Japanese Embassy from 25 August to 1 September. Documents can be submitted on weekdays from 09:30 to 12:45 and from 14:00 to 17:00.

As part of the international forum ‘Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025’ (OGT 2025), which will be held from 22 to 24 October in Ashgabat, an exhibition of leading global companies, technology and equipment suppliers will take place alongside the conference. This was reported by the news website Asmannews. Traditionally, the OGT Expo will present awards for the best stand among international and Turkmen participants. In 2024, the awards went to CNPC and Gujurly Inzhener (ES). The winners for 2025 will be announced at the closing ceremony. Last year, the event attracted over 10,000 visitors from 50 countries. The organisers expect this year's exhibition to set new records, expand international presence and create more opportunities for investment and cooperation.


Turkmenistan and Palestine discussed expanding bilateral cooperation

On 19 August, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Myahri Byashimova held a meeting with the Ambassador of the State of Palestine Rana Abu Hijleh, during which the course towards deepening partnership in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres was confirmed. During the negotiations, the diplomats conducted a detailed review of the current state of bilateral relations, paying particular attention to the prospects for the development of trade and economic interaction and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The Palestinian diplomat expressed deep gratitude to the Turkmen side for its consistent humanitarian support to the Palestinian people. Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening intergovernmental dialogue on key areas of cooperation.


The Ambassador of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan

A meeting between the newly appointed German Ambassador Ina Lepel and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, A. Movlamov, took place in the capital of Pakistan, during which the parties discussed prospects for regional cooperation. The meeting of diplomats was devoted to discussing Turkmenistan's energy and transport initiatives involving Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as the possible participation of German companies in their implementation. The Turkmen diplomat provided detailed information on his country's infrastructure and energy projects being implemented with the participation of Pakistan and Afghanistan, emphasising their importance for the economic development of the region. Turkmen companies invited to participate in the international exhibition Health Asia 2025

Representatives of the medical and pharmaceutical industries of Turkmenistan have been invited to participate in the Health Asia 2025 exhibition, which will be held in Pakistan in October this year. Turkmen artists won prizes at TURKSOY competition in Aktau

The award ceremony for the winners of a competition for young artists dedicated to traditional children's games was held in Aktau. The Grand Prix was awarded to Bibinamat Ashirova from Turkmenistan. This was reported by the Orient news agency. In addition, Aysel Semenderova and Vepa Geldimuhammedov from Turkmenistan took second and third place, respectively. More than 40 participants from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey, selected from 2,000 contestants, reached the final. Sultan Raev, Secretary General of TURKSOY, noted the importance of such projects for strengthening cultural ties between peoples. The winners were awarded diplomas and gifts from TURKSOY and the authorities of Aktau.


Turkmen businessmen invited to Plastex Uzbekistan exhibition in Tashkent
