WHO held a training session in Ashgabat on developing guidelines for NCDs

An online training course organised by the World Health Organisation's country office was held in Turkmenistan. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The event was attended by 15 representatives of the country's Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the Myrat Garryev State Medical University of Turkmenistan. The main objective of the training was to strengthen national capacity in the development of clinical guidelines for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) based on evidence-based medicine. The training was held virtually from the UN building in Ashgabat and focused on clinical protocols, quality assurance in healthcare and NCD treatment methodologies. This was an important step towards the creation of sustainable health systems based on scientifically sound approaches. The training was organised as part of the project ‘Procurement of Medicines and Health Products for the Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) in Turkmenistan through UNDP’.


The Ambassador of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the EIB delegation

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, met with a delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) led by Davide Monguzzi, Senior Loan Officer for Asia. This was reported by the news website Turkmenportal. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation, focusing on the creation of a legal framework and the signing of framework agreements. S. Palvanov emphasised Ashgabat's interest in partnering with European financial institutions to promote sustainable growth, infrastructure development, ‘green’ energy and digitalisation. The interlocutors agreed to intensify the preparation of investment projects and memoranda of cooperation. Plans were also announced for a visit by EIB Vice-President Kyriacos Kakouris to Turkmenistan in August 2025 to participate in the UN LLDC 3 conference in the ‘Avaza’ National Tourist Zone. Bilateral meetings are planned to be held within the framework of the forum.


Weightlifters from Turkmenistan won six medals at the Asian Championships

Turkmen athletes won six medals, one silver and five bronze, at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Astana. This was reported by the IIC of Turkmenistan. In the weight category up to 71 kg, Kakamyrat Annamyradov won silver in the combined event (288 kg) and two bronzes in individual exercises (snatch - 128 kg, clean and jerk - 160 kg). In the 53 kg category, Ogulshat Amanova won bronze in the total (174 kg), as well as two small bronze medals for the snatch (78 kg) and clean and jerk (96 kg). After the first three days, Turkmenistan ranks sixth in the overall medal standings.


Hero Arkadag got acquainted with the preparations for the UN conference in Avaza

On July 9, as part of a working visit to the Balkan velayat, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov got acquainted with the progress of preparatory work for holding the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the ‘Avaza’ National Tourist Zone. This was reported by the state news agency TDH. The focal point of the visit was the Congress Centre, where the main events of the forum are planned. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov inspected the building, whose architecture combines modern forms with elements of national architecture. Hero Arkadag familiarised himself with the level of technical equipment, assessed the infrastructure and gave recommendations on ensuring comfortable conditions for conference participants, including foreign delegates and media representatives. The National Leader of the Turkmen people paid special attention to environmental and landscaping issues. According to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, creating a comfortable and environmentally sustainable environment for residents and guests of the country is one of the priorities of state policy. During the trip, the Hero Arkadag was presented with projects for future cultural facilities and entertainment venues, including musical fountains, performance venues and recreation areas. These locations are being prepared as part of a cultural and humanitarian programme that will accompany the international forum. Concerts, friendship festivals and other events with the participation of foreign artists are planned. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also familiarised himself with the state of the hotel infrastructure: he inspected the rooms intended for delegations and checked the quality of service. He emphasised the need to observe national traditions of hospitality and create a favourable atmosphere for guests. At a meeting with heads of relevant departments, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov outlined key tasks for the preparations, ranging from speeding up construction and repair work to providing information support for the conference. The National Leader of the Turkmen people stressed the importance of daily coverage of the forum in the Turkmen and international media. At the end of his visit, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the upcoming conference will be an important step in strengthening international cooperation and will demonstrate the high level of organisation and peaceful foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan in the context of the International Year of Peace and Trust.


The UNRCCA in Ashgabat held an interactive session for young leaders

An interactive online session organised by the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) took place in Ashgabat. The event, held as part of the 2025 Academy of Preventive Diplomacy, brought together young leaders from Central Asia and Afghanistan to discuss the role of youth and women in peacebuilding processes. The session took place in a landmark year – the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security. Participants examined practical aspects of implementing the global agendas ‘Women, Peace and Security’ and ‘Youth, Peace and Security’ in a regional context. Particular attention was paid to the activities of the Central Asian Women Leaders' Dialogue under the UNRCCA, an important platform for strengthening the role of women in decision-making and promoting inclusive approaches to ensuring stability.


Turkmenistan strengthens cooperation in tourism at the OTS platform

On 8-9 July 2025, Ankara is hosting a meeting of heads of tourism agencies of the member states of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), which is attended by a delegation from the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan. During the event, the Turkmen side emphasised that under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the country is consistently developing international cooperation in the field of tourism, guided by the principles of neutrality. UNDP summed up the results of cooperation with Turkmenistan in 2024

Turkmenistan participates in the 66th session of the WIPO in Geneva

From 8 to 17 July 2025, the 66th session of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Assembly is being held in Geneva, with the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan headed by the Head of the State Intellectual Property Service. The session, which brings together representatives from more than 100 countries, is discussing topical issues in the development of the international intellectual property system. The main focus is on finding a balance between the interests of rights holders and users in the context of rapid technological progress, as well as issues of regulating artificial intelligence in the context of copyright. Turkmen students learn advanced experience at China University of Petroleum

The oil and gas industry in Turkmenistan, which is a key sector of the economy, continues to develop through international cooperation and the training of highly qualified personnel. An important step in this direction has been the implementation of educational programmes with leading Chinese energy companies and universities. This was reported by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. A group of students from the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University is undergoing training and practical work experience at the China University of Petroleum (Beijing) from 29 June to 20 July. This programme is organised within the framework of Memoranda of Cooperation signed in 2023 between the university, the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and the China University of Petroleum. During the three-week training, students will learn about modern technologies in the oil and gas industry, visit CNPC production facilities, and study current topics, including ‘green’ energy and prospects for energy cooperation on the Silk Road. Special attention is paid to cultural exchange – programme participants visit iconic sites in China and learn the basics of the country's language and culture. At the same time, another group of university students is undergoing practical training at CNPC production facilities in Turkmenistan itself, which allows them to combine international experience with the study of modern technologies used directly in the national oil and gas industry. These educational initiatives demonstrate Turkmenistan's comprehensive approach to training specialists for the fuel and energy sector, combining advanced international practices with the needs of the national economy.


Turkmenistan expands cooperation with pharmaceutical company La Roche

A working meeting with representatives of the Swiss pharmaceutical company La Roche was held at the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva. The focus of the discussion was on the further development of programmes to provide medical support to children with rare diseases such as haemophilia and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Turkmenistan participated in the UN High-Level Meeting in New York

On 7 July, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Myahri Byashimova took part in the UN High-level Meeting on Regional Zones of Peace, held at the organisation's headquarters in New York. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkmenistan. The purpose of the meeting was to develop and establish regional zones of peace and strengthen cooperation and trust between states and regions. In her speech, M. Byashimova reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to the principles of neutrality, peace and good-neighbourliness, noting the importance of establishing a zone of peace, trust and cooperation in Central Asia. Special attention was paid to the UN General Assembly resolution ‘Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia’, recognized as an important step towards institutionalizing regional peace and dialogue. The participants emphasised the role of zones of peace as instruments of stability and platforms for diplomacy. The meeting became an important platform for exchanging views on strengthening security at the regional and global levels. On the same day, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima. The parties discussed preparations for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC 3). The importance of the conference for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was emphasised.


Turkmenistan and the EU discussed prospects for developing bilateral relations

Ms. Kaja Kallas thanked Turkmenistan for establishing a humanitarian corridor for EU citizens travelling from Iran to their countries of residence. The parties discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral relations and noted the effectiveness of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in Ashgabat in March 2025. Special attention was paid to the significance of the first ‘EU – Central Asia’ summit, which took place in April 2025 in Samarkand. In addition, issues related to deepening political and diplomatic cooperation, as well as regional and international topics of mutual interest, were discussed.
